God With Us

March 20, 2006 — 6 Comments

I don’t know about you, but many times I’ve wondered how real God is. Sometimes I have been tempted to doubt that he cares about everything in our lives, even the very small things. But it seems that each and every time that I begin to wonder and doubt, I receive a resounding answer to my prayers asking God how real he truly is.

This resounding answer always tells me that God really does have a purpose, and he really does have a plan for my life, and for yours. I truly believe that total surrender will lead to a place where God wants you. It will help all of us realize that God is Who He said He is, and that he cares about everything, whether it be your career choice, the house you’re going to buy, the small investment you are going to make, or your schoolwork. God knows and cares about those things.

I thank God for showing me that he is a God who is here with us. He’s not just some force floating around in space or a Santa Claus figure throwing gifts or firy coal at us. He is Emmanuel, God with us, whether we feel like He is with us or not.

  1. “whether we feel like He is with us or not.”

You hit the nail on the head there, Tim! We can trust in Him because His nature is unchanging. What a fantastic God we have! Thanks for the reminder :)

Amen! Amen! Amen! I can’t agree with you more.

  3. Amen Tim!!!

I’ve been there myself quite a few times, and ALWAYS, over and over again God has shown me that I am here for a reason and He DOES have a plan for me, and others like me.

I really can’t say anymore than Amen!…you took the words right out from under my fingers!

  4. Thank you! This is something that I really need to hear right now.

Tim, you’re going places that the Bible does not direct you to. Can you please give a verse that supports this?

It seems you have fallen into the idea of God being a “stimulus-response” – that is, that if you do something, God will do something in return.

    I’ve written about this here:

    and a sermon here:

  6. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

You said, “you’re going places that the Bible does not direct you to.” Not sure exactly what you meant there. Are you referring to the blog or perhaps my life? Specifics would be helpful. You can comment and tell me or fire me an email if you’d like.

As for falling into the idea of God being a vending maching–on the contrary. As I said, “I thank God for showing me that he is a God who is here with us. He’s not just some force floating around in space or a Santa Claus figure throwing gifts or firy coal at us. ” He’s not some random gift giver who gives us stuff when we’re good and bad things when we’re bad. I believe that we are never deserving of anything we receive. It is only by the grace of God that we are blessed by Him. I certainly don’t deserve it, and knowing that I don’t deserve it leads me to appreciate it even more.
